FESTIVAL WALKWAY
The Festival Walkway project was commissioned by Tridel Corporation, Toronto, Canada, and is installed at 10 Bellair St., Toronto. The work is composed of seven stainless steel cantilevered arm systems that are wrapped with cast bronze wild grape vines and are installed along a narrow corridor connecting Bloor St. with Cumberland Avenue. The cantilevered arms are configured to create a canopy effect. After dark the strand lamps mounted above the cantilevered arms illuminate the corridor casting silhouettes of leaf and twig patterns in pools of light along the corridor. The work creates a gradual transition between the frenetic paced activities of Bloor St. and the calm pastoral experience of the Martha Schwartz park on Cumberland.
